When Your Mind Won't Slow Down

Even when life is going well, it can be difficult to relax.

Anxiety isn't always obvious from the outside. Many people with anxiety are high functioning. They show up for work, care for their families, meet deadlines, and appear calm to others while feeling exhausted inside.

Anxiety is something you experience, not your identity. And while anxiety often feels overwhelming, it is also highly treatable.

What Anxiety Can Look Like

Anxiety looks different for everyone.

For some people, it feels like constant worry or overthinking. For others, it shows up physically through muscle tension, digestive concerns, headaches, fatigue, or difficulty sleeping.
You may notice:
• Constant overthinking
• Racing thoughts
• Feeling "on edge"
• Difficulty relaxing
• Muscle tension
• Trouble sleeping
• Irritability
• Difficulty making decisions
• Avoiding situations because they feel overwhelming
• Feeling responsible for everything
• Physical symptoms such as stomach aches, headaches, nausea, or a racing heart

Sometimes anxiety feels mostly emotional.
Sometimes it feels like it's living in your body.
Often, it's both.

How Anxiety Can Affect Your Life

Anxiety doesn't only affect your thoughts.

It can influence your relationships, work, confidence, health, and ability to enjoy everyday life. You may spend so much time preparing for the future that it's difficult to be present in the moment.

You may second-guess yourself long after making a decision.

You might avoid opportunities because they feel too uncertain, or constantly seek reassurance before moving forward.

Over time, anxiety can become exhausting.

Many people find themselves living according to what anxiety says is "safe" rather than what truly matters to them.

The result is often a life that feels smaller than they want it to be.

Why This Happens

Anxiety isn't a sign that you're weak or incapable. More often, it's the result of a nervous system that has learned to stay alert in an effort to protect you. For some people, anxiety develops after a difficult or unpredictable life experience. For others, it builds gradually through years of chronic stress, perfectionism, or feeling responsible for everyone else's needs.

Whatever its origin, anxiety is not a personal failing—it's an adaptive response that has become overprotective.

How Therapy Can Help

The goal of therapy isn't to eliminate every anxious thought.
Everyone experiences anxiety from time to time.
Instead, therapy helps you respond differently.
Together, we'll work toward helping you:
• Feel less controlled by worry.
• Better understand your anxiety.
• Develop practical tools for managing stress.
• Respond rather than react.
• Build confidence in your ability to handle uncertainty.
• Reconnect with what matters most.
• Feel more present in your daily life.

Rather than organizing your life around fear, we'll work toward creating a life organized around your values.

My Approach

Every person's experience of anxiety is different, which means therapy should be individualized.

Depending on your goals, I may integrate Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT), Somatic & Nervous System Therapy, EMDR Therapy, and mindfulness-based interventions.

ACT helps us develop a different relationship with anxious thoughts rather than getting pulled into every "what if."

Somatic approaches help us better understand how anxiety shows up in the body and support your nervous system in becoming more flexible and resilient.

For clients whose anxiety is connected to unresolved past experiences, EMDR can help process memories that continue to influence the present.

Together, we'll determine which approaches best support your goals and create a treatment plan that fits your unique needs.

Everyone experiences anxiety from time to time. Therapy isn't about eliminating anxiety altogether, it's about helping anxiety take up less space in your life so it no longer controls your decisions.

What if my anxiety feels mostly physical?

What if my anxiety feels mostly physical?

You're not imagining it. Anxiety commonly affects the body through muscle tension, digestive concerns, headaches, fatigue, dizziness, a racing heart, and other physical symptoms. Therapy can help you better understand and respond to these patterns.

Do I need medication?

Do I need medication?

Some people benefit from medication, while others make significant progress with therapy alone. If medication seems like it may be helpful, we can discuss that as part of your overall treatment plan.

What if I don't know why I'm anxious?

That's okay. Many people don't. Part of therapy is understanding the factors that contribute to your anxiety while developing practical tools that help you move forward regardless of where it began.

Yes. Anxiety is highly treatable. While stressful situations will always be part of life, therapy can help you feel more confident, flexible, and capable of responding to whatever life brings.

You Don't Have to Let Anxiety Make the Decisions

Anxiety often tells us that certainty comes first.
That we'll finally live the life we want once we stop worrying.
The reality is that confidence usually comes after we begin taking meaningful steps-not before.
